Annual reports of the Regents of the Lunatic Asylum, 1830-1865.

This series consists primarily of manuscript annual reports made by the Regents of the Lunatic Asylum to the General Assembly. The legislature required that the regents report annually on the state and condition of the asylum. Information includes number of patients, number who died over the past year, number cured and discharged, number removed by friends, amount of cash in bank one year ago, amount received since, amount of expenditures made over the past year, balance of funds remaining in the bank, and brief narrative comments. The reports are also dated and signed, generally by the president of the regents.

S.C. Statute 1811(5)639 specified that every board of commissioners of free schools was to make a yearly return to the legislature.
